Convenient, ready to use applicator substrates selectively "printed"
with single or multiple water sensitive formulations for cleansing and/or
the treatment of skin. Compositions may contain one or more incompatible
cosmetic or pharmaceutical dermatological formulations that, upon contact
with moisture, are readily transferred to the skin.

DEVELOPER'S SOLUTION
Working on our original focus of acne treatment, we developed a creative and stable delivery system to conveniently dispense a dual drug prescriptive acne product. 2 different water-activated formulations, an antibiotic system and a keratolytic agent system, are printed as self-contained dots in a design on the absorbent substrate. In contact with water, or when wiped on wetted skin, the companion formulations dissolve and mix together during their transference to the skin. Heightening the convenience aspect, the substrate absorbs the water on the skin as the actives are delivered, eliminating the need to "towel dry".
MARKETER'S VIEWPOINT
Primarily, to provide the first non-refrigerated dual drug acne treatment. Secondly, to provide the OTC acne category its first Benzoyl Peroxide wipe/pad. Further, to invite compliance by offering a more convenient, neat, and very easy to use method of treating a variety of dermatological disorders while leaving effective drug activity and a cosmetically acceptable comfortable feeling on the skin.
MARKETING STRATEGY
"You have to dry your skin anyway, now you can medicate at the same time".
CONSUMER'S REVIEW
Qualitative market research studies among teenagers and adult acne sufferers elicited very positive reactions to the idea of treating skin at the same time that it is dried. Since most currently marketed skin disorder treatment regimens are messy, greasy, drippy or otherwise unpleasant to use, compliance is irregular and respondents perceived the water-activated wipes to be "much better/easier/convenient to use than their usual product.
TECHNOLOGY FLEXIBILITY
Broadening the utilization of a water-activated system, the technology is applicable to a wide array of dermatological therapies including, among others: antifungals, antihistamines, antibiotics, emollients, peroxides, corticosteroids, sunscreens and cosmetics (skin cleansing and moisturization, all-in-one).
