摘要：It is popular to associate capitalism with the Industrial Revolution, and people tend to think that modern capitalism originated in a series of specific events in Western Europe. But the meaning of Capitalism as a term per se is really complex. For Karl Marx who is associated closely with this term, capitalism is only mentioned once and it only has technical meaning. Sombart and Weber added not only “spiritual” dimensions but also historical dimensions into the research on capitalism. They investigated different forms of capitalism, which existed in Antiquity and the Medieval Age. Schefold will also present how the California School which holds that the birth of capitalism was a coincidence confronts the intellectual tradition which Marx, Sombart and Weber belong to.

报告人简介：Bertram Schefold（波特伦·谢弗德），目前任德国法兰克福大学歌德讲席教授，生于1943年，于1971年在巴塞尔大学取得了经济学博士学位，具有数学、物理学和哲学学士学位。70年代初在剑桥大学圣三一学院，师从罗宾逊夫人、斯拉法和卡尔多等人，成为新剑桥学派的重要成员。在“两个剑桥之争”中躬身入局，与萨缪尔森、希克斯等人进行学术争论。自1974年之后，谢弗德正式开始在法兰克福大学担任经济学教授，至今已近五十年，期间曾任法兰克福大学经济学院院长，欧洲经济思想史协会主席、现任荣誉主席，亦曾任德语区经济协会主席（Verein für Socialpolitik）。谢弗德教授在资本理论、经济思想史、环境经济学等领域出版了五十余本著作，发表了三百余篇论文，并撰写了众多的学术评论。曾在美国、法国、意大利、日本、挪威、印度等国家，作为访问学者进行学术交流。在中国，受聘为北京大学荣誉教授，曾在北京大学、清华大学、中国人民大学、复旦大学、南京大学、武汉大学、中国农业大学、云南大学等知名学府进行访问交流。在欧洲，曾参与编纂马克思恩格斯全集（MEGA），是国际上研究马克思主义经济学的权威。主要著作有《Great Economic Thinkers（上下卷）、《Normal Prices, Technical Change and Accumulation》、《Studies in Political Economy》、《Joint Production and Other Essays》，编著《Business Cycles in Economic Thought》、《European and Chinese Histories of Economic Thought: Theories and Images of Good Governance》等。
